Hello

I am William "Bill" Leahy, founder and president of UNTURNING STEEL INC. UNTURNING STEEL was formed to assist veterans in transitioning into US Manufacturing, aiming to eliminate the scourge of veteran suicide and set global standards for innovation and reliability in manufacturing. With extensive experience as an Engineering Superintendent, Maintenance Team Leader, Consultant, and service provider, I specialize in Reliability Engineering, Asset Management, and Leadership. I am a former US Army Captain and West Point graduate. I hold an MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill, an RMIC from the University of Tennessee, and other professional credentials. Living in Southeastern New England, I actively volunteer as a youth sports coach and community member.

The UNTURNING STEEL Story

We launched our first pilot program in the summer of 2023 in Green Bay, WI, and earned the "Best Cultural Innovation Award" from the University of Tennessee—Knoxville Reliability and Maintainability Center and Efficient Plant Magazine as the result of our efforts. This Spring, we launched our second cohort, which we are currently completing in Knoxville, TN, this summer.

We have applied for 501(c)(3) non-profit status with the IRS to ensure our program is cost-free for both manufacturers and service members. We invite every like minded organization and individual to join us. The only requirement is a solid commitment to supporting our military and manufacturing communities.

We plan to expand to new regions starting with New England in 2025. Stay tuned.
